davidb@vanzandtnews.com A limited joint election agreement with Van ISD for the May 4 city and school elections was approved unanimously by the Van City Council during its regular monthly meeting March 14.

One of the most highly anticipated events of the spring in Van Zandt County resumes March 25-30 with the annual VZC Fair at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton. Admittance to the grounds will be $5.00 per car and $1.00 for walk-ins.

1955 - 2024 Van Leslie Tucker passed away on March 12, 2024, in his home in Leonard at the age of 68. He was born on November 10, 1955, in Dallas to parents, Kenneth Tucker and Wilma Ruth (Gilmer) Tucker.

Fruitvale ISD has announced plans to expand their Early Childhood Education Program by adding a class for three-year olds starting with the 2024-25 program term. Documents required will include proof of income (SNAP approval, W-2, or tax return), birth certificate, social security card (parent and child), parent ID, proof of address (utility bill), insurance card, shot record, current medical exam, and current dental exam.

In last week’s issue of the News, the name of one of the candidates in the Van Zandt County Pct. 3 Commissioner’s race was misidentified in the election results.

While no final decision has been made yet on whether or not to have school open or closed Monday, April 8 during the Total Solar Eclipse Day, Van ISD Superintendent Don Dunn expressed concerns during a recent public appearance.
