The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs delivered one of their best games of the season last week, opening District 19-2A play with an 84- 20 demolition of the Cross Roads Lady Bobcats Jan. 7.

The Red Bird Kitchen in Edom held a pre-opening event, before officially opening to the public. With the upcoming March 1 Texas Primary Election looming on the horizon the republican and democratic parties of Van Zandt County are busy planning events leading up to the election. A democratic candidate caravan will be making a stop in Van Zandt County on Saturday, Jan.

The Edgewood Economic Development Corporation, along with Bulldog Pharmacy in Edgewood, have teamed up together to present a mural to the citizens of Edgewood. Bulldog Pharmacy Pharmacist Holly Randolph and her husband, Jake, said they hope the mural can help connect the community.

Following a recommendation by Van Zandt County Criminal District Attorney Tonda Curry, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court voted unanimously Jan. 5 to reapply for the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) grant to fund the Victims Assistance Project for the 2022-’23 term.

The Trinity Valley Electric Cooperative Charitable Foundation awarded a grant Dec. 22, in the amount of $1,500 to the Van Zandt County Precinct Watch Program.

A new year generally brings a host of resolutions. For Legacy Ag Credit, a new year means a new office in Canton. Just down the road from the current office on West Dallas Street, the new office location will be better equipped to serve borrowers. “Legacy Ag Credit has experienced significant growth in the region in recent years, as more and more people choose to live in the country or purchase rural property,” said Derrell Chapman, Legacy chef executive officer. “We hope our new Canton office will provide greater convenience and accessibility for existing and future customers and will be a welcoming presence in the community,” said Legacy Ag Credit officials. A memorial service was held for Kathy Elane Ballard Burkham, 70, of Canton, on Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at Jackson Baptist Church with Bro. Robert Cunningham officiating. Kathy passed away on Dec. 26, 2021, in Tyler, after a brave battle with cancer.
