Eagles wrap non-district play

The Canton Eagles hit one of their slowest stretches of the season last week, hitting the court just one time with a home date against Jacksonville Jan. 7. The Eagles would hang tough early in the contest before a second half surge carried the Indians pull away for a 61-35 win.

Deputies apprehend repeat drug suspect

A Van Zandt County repeat drug offender has once again been apprehended by the VZC Sheriff’s Office according to information released by the sheriff’s office. According to the report, a Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office narcotics detective shared information with VZC Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies about suspected drug activity at Duke’s Travel Plaza.

New wave of COVID-19 cases reported

Van Zandt County cities were extremely fortunate throughout the final weeks of 2021 and opening week of 2022, largely dodging the surge of COVID-19 cases that struck other parts of the country. That trend may be changing, however, with the Northeast Texas Public Health District announcing nearly 400 new confirmed and probable cases between the Dec.
