Gladys Laverne Calloway passed away on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at the Hospice of East Texas facility in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 92. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2021, at Hiett’s Lybrand Funeral Home Chapel, Wills Point, with the Rev. Don Myers officiating.

Funeral services for SSG Morgan Ray Davis, 30, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, (Ft. Carson Army Base), were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline, with Dr. David Christine officiating. Full military honors followed at Oakland Cemetery. SSG Davis passed away Dec. 9, 2021, in Colorado. He was born Sept. 1, 1991, in Sulphur Springs.

Judith Juanell Gradick Putnam was born March 21, 1944, in Dallas, to the late Fletcher Jefferson Gradick and Evelyn Prue Becknell Gradick. She was a resident of Canton and worked in accounting. Judy passed away at the age of 77 on Dec. 26, 2021, in Tyler. Survivors include her three sons, Darrell Putnam, Doug Putnam, and Dennis Putnam; sister, Carolyn Garrett; eight grandchildren, Heather Hall, Kristin Willis, Josh Putnam, Tucker Putnam, Ray Putnam, Kim Putnam, Davis Putnam, and Kennedy Putnam and seven great-grandchildren.

Lady Tigers win Quitman Tourney

Tigers close in on district play

The Wills Point Tigers stayed busy despite the holiday break last week, hitting the court multiple times over a three-day span while competing at the annual Leonard Varsity Tournament. Wills Point fared well overall, going 2-2 in four competitive efforts.

Lady Vandals strike gold at Quitman

The Van Lady Vandals hit the road last week, participating in their final tournament of the season in Quitman Dec. 28- 29. The Lady Vandals would go 3-0 overall at the two-day event, notching wins over Emory Rains, Scurry-Rosser and Bland on their way to the title.

Lady Dogs win consolation bracket

More than 100 programs from across the country, including the Edgewood Lady Dogs, returned to competitive action following the Christmas holiday at the annual Caprock Classic in Lubbock last week. Edgewood would put together one of the best showings of any entrant in the field at the event, going 4-1 over the three-day event to win the consolation bracket of the tournament.
