The Grand Saline Lady Indians took care of business March 25, getting a standout pitching performance from ace Hannah Aaron and timely hitting up and down the lineup in a 13-0 win over Commerce. Hannah Aaron breezed through four innings on just 55 pitches, allowing just two hits while striking out five.

Martins Mill standout Austin Alexander was joined by family, friends, teammates and members of the Mustang coaching staff as he signed his letter of intent to play baseball collegiately at Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City next year. Alexander was dominant both on the mound and at the plate for Martins Mill during the 2021 season, earning District 20-2A Pitcher of the Year honors from competing coaches and First Team All-State honors as an outfielder from the Texas Sports Writers Association.

The Edgewood Lady Dogs started fast and finished strong on Tuesday night, downing chief rival Grand Saline 9-4 at home. Edgewood made it look easy in the early going, lighting up the scoreboard for four runs in the first and two in the second to establish a 6-0 lead.

The Van Vandals made the trek to White Oak on Tuesday night, continuing their preparations for what is expected to be a sprint to the finish in a crowded District 14-4A race. Van would come up short in the contest, falling victim to two big innings in an 11-6 loss.

The Edgewood Bulldogs and Grand Saline Indians met up on the diamond for the first time this season on Tuesday night, battling in the District 12-3A opener for both squads. Edgewood’s Noah Boone would be play a starring role in the contest, powering his team both from the plate and on the mound in an eventual 6-2 Bulldog victory.

The Canton Eaglettes put together an impressive showing on the diamond last week, opening District 14-4A play with a 13-1 rout of the Van Lady Vandals. The game was never much in doubt as Canton scored runs in all six innings played on their way to victory.

The Wills Point Lady Tiger softball program officially hit the most important stretch of their season last week, kicking off District 14-4A play on the road against the Brownsboro Bearettes. Fielding errors and a strong Brownsboro pitching performance would prove to be too tough to overcome as the home team scored a 15-0 shutout win over the Lady Tigers.

Wills Point High School junior Mady Garcia capped a stellar lifting season by winning the Class 4A State Powerlifting Championship in the 259 lb. weight class March 18. Wills Point’s powerlifting program will have the opportunity to add even more hardware when Ivan Sifuentes and Caleb Webb compete at the Class 4A Boys State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene March 24-26. The Wills Point Tiger track and field program sent competitors to Farmersville March 17 to compete at the annual Farmer Relays. Wills Point placed first overall as a team in the varsity boys division with 127.25 points, ahead of Mabank, Royse City, Greenville, Blue Ridge, Sanger, Caddo Mills, Nevada Community and Farmersville.
