City of Van announces holiday events

Body The City of Van is planning a busy holiday season as events scheduled for the months of November and December have been released. There will be a Snow Slide downtown from 2-6 p.m.

Bible talk offered at Senior Citizens Center

Body “Bible Talks” will be held on from 7:30 -8:30 p.m., Nov. 10, 17 and 24 and the Canton Senior Citizen Center, 200 Groves St., Canton. The event is open to the public. “Come hear the simple teachings of Jesus. No collections are ever taken,” organizers said.

Affordable health screenings coming to Canton

Body – Residents living in and around Canton, can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening. Mill Creek Ranch Resort will host this community event on Nov. 18.

Kans for Kaci Food Drive underway

Body Patty Cakes Child Care, located at 508 Tennessee Street in Wills Point, has announced that they are once again hosting their annual Kans for Kaci Food Drive.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox dates announced

Body Since 2009, more than 26.5 million children who have received an Operation Christmas Child Shoebox gift have participated in The Greatest Journey—a 12 lesson discipleship program.

Body At approximately 2:30 p.m. Nov. 9, a grandmother, daughter and grandchild pulled into the Van Zandt County Animal Care Center on Highway 80 just outside of Wills Point. The daughter had brought two puppies to be checked on for medical issues.

New redistricting plan approved by Commissioners

Body Following a 3-2 vote during their regular meeting Nov. 10, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court approved a new redistricting plan for the four commissioner court precincts.
