Body On Friday, Dec. 2, Representative Keith Bell (R-Forney) filed House Bill 868 to lower the maximum appraisal increase rate of homestead exempted properties from 10 percent to 3.5 percent.

A good crowd was on hand under mild weather conditions Dec. 3 for the annual City of Van Christmas Parade held downtown. The parade route began at J. E. Rhodes Elementary School and ended at the Van United Methodist Church parking. The parade featured a number of entries including the Van High School Mighty Vandal Band, the 2022 Van Oil Queen court, and a special visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Photo by David Barber

A multi-day, multi-agency effort by Van Zandt County law enforcement culminated in the arrest of suspect east of FM 1255 Dec. 6. Local law enforcement officials followed several tips in the days leading up to the arrest, notably conducting a search in and around the area of County Road 4120 the day prior. Body A request for volunteer assistance at the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department was tabled Dec. 7 by the VZC Commissioners Court during its Erin McLeaish and VZC Sheriff Joe Carter were present to make the request to the commissioners’ court.
