The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office released the following arrest report from May 30-June 6. Seth Edward Adkins, 23, Grand Saline, arrested under warrant for assaulting a family member by strangulation.

Businesses in Van have staying power. That is the title of a recently released report from the City of Van Economic Development Corporation (EDC) showing a number of businesses in Van that are still in operation after a number of years of service.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office released the following arrest report from May 23-May 30. Michael Jose Alvizo, 33, Edgewood, arrested on site for driving while intoxicated.

The Texas A&M Extension Service Offices of Van Zandt County, Smith County, Rains County and Kaufman County have announced that they will be cohosting the annual Northeast Texas Rural Land Summit June 30 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Van Zandt County Farm Bureau Center located at 220 Burnett Trail in Canton.

A 55-year-old Bayton man was killed during the early afternoon hours May 28 following a single-vehicle accident along Highway 80 just west of Fruitvale. According to information released by DPS officials, Tommy Wayne Stites was traveling west along US 80 while riding a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle at approximately 2:30 p.m.
