Reese issues disaster declaration due to recent severe weather

Due to recent severe weather conditions, Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese issued the following Declaration of Disaster for VZC May 16: ‘Whereas, on the 16th day of May 2024, VZC was in imminent threat of the occurrence of widespread and/ or severe damage, injury, or loss of life or property resulting from severe weather conditions countywide created by torrential rainfall, major flooding, and severe thunderstorms with high speed winds, hail, and tornadic activity over an excessive period of time affecting VZC by causing flooding and wind damage, as well as major infrastructure damage preventing access to, or the safe passage on many roadways, as well as the potential of residential and commercial electrical power and utility outages, thus creating a public safety hazard: and ‘Whereas, the VZC Judge has determined, based upon forecasts issued by the National Weather Service and local news media outlets, extraordinary measures must be taken to protect life, as well as protect or rehabilitate property, and are hereby ordered.

VZC annual Memorial Day program set for May 27

Gooden announces Town Hall Meeting

United States District 5 Congressman Lance Gooden has announced a series of Congressional Town Hall meetings across Texas’ 5th district. “These town halls will provide an opportunity for constituents to engage directly with Congressman Gooden on a range of topics, including defending constitutional rights, securing our border, and ensuring local economies thrive free from federal overreach,” said Gooden’s Chief of Staff Micah Bock.

Recognitions, swearing-in dominate Van trustee meeting

A number of recognitions along with the swearing-in ceremony of a new board member highlighted the regular monthly meeting of the Van School Board May 20. Following a donation presentation to Van ISD from the Van ISD Educational Foundation totaling $62,759.69 which received board approval, University Interscholastic League (UIL) participants representing Van High School were recognized including UIL tennis state quarterfinalists, UIL prose silver and bronze medalists, and the UIL state champion social studies team.
