Michael Lee Barrentine
1963-2023
Memorial services for Michael Lee Barrentine, 59, of Canton, were held April 15 at the Little Hope Community Center (not Little Hope Baptist Church). Visitation began at 1 p.m. with the Celebration of Life following at 2 p.m. with Dr. Billy J. Barrentine and Joe Barrentine officiating. Michael passed away peacefully April 3, 2023, in Tyler, after a long illness.
Michael was born Sept. 12, 1963, to Ferman Barrentine and Sylvia Rogers in Grand Saline. He grew up in Canton and attended Canton ISD where he was active in sports, particularly basketball. He was employed in the oilfield for several years. He moved on to Sundown Ranch as an assistant counselor for years. He then studied toward earning a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and worked in home health. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a Methodist by faith and a believing follower of Jesus Christ.
Michael is survived by his son, Joseph Lee Barrentine of Canton; grandchildren, William and Annabella Barrentine of College Station, and Cammi Leigh Lester of Ohio. He is also survived by his daughter, Jeanifer Lynn Greene and granddaughter, Adelynn Greene of Alexandria, Louisiana; special friends, Tina Glick and her father, Danny Ingram, of Canton. Michael is also survived by his brother, Billy Jack Barrentine of Canton; brother-in-law and sister, John and Serena Van of Angola, Indiana. He also had other siblings; sister and brother-in-law, James and Susan Coffey; sister, Donna Nash; sister, Lyn Nash; sister and brother-in-law, Greg and Christina Tiggs; brother, Marc Nash, all of the San Antonio area. Michael had a host of nieces and nephews, friends, and acquaintances.
Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Rogers Nash; father, Ferman Barrentine, along with his sister-inlaw, Kenna Barrentine.
