James Oliver Williams
August 28, 1931- February 26, 2025
On August 28, 1931, James Oliver Williams was born to the parentage of Clifford and Lina Williams of Wills Point, Texas. James was raised in Wills Point where he would attend elementary school and high school. During these early years, he excelled academically and athletically.
After graduating high school from Cartwright in 1949, he entered and served in the military for 2 years as a private in the US Army. While in the military, James met and married Erma Jean Jenkins. They resided in Fort Hood and McGregor Texas before making Wills Point home where they would raise their daughter, Brenda.
As a senior at Jarvis Christian College, James completed his student teaching at Cartwright High School. He spent several years continuing his college education and eventually turned to the medical field, becoming a licensed vocational nurse (LVN). Mr. Williams spent over 30 years working in health care and retired from Terrell State Hospital.
James joined St. Mary Church of God in Christ at an early age and was known for his love of music, specifically the sound of quartet music. He began singing gospel music at an early age. He was influenced by quartet groups and sang with The Golden Stars of Wills Point, Texas for over sixty years. Mr. Williams managed the group as they continued to sing and travel spreading the gospel through song for many years.
James leaves to cherish his memories one daughter Brenda Williams Cole (Melvin), granddaughters, Kimberly Cole - White (J.C.) and Kesha Cole - Jones (Jimmie), great grandson Ean James Jones, great granddaughter Logan Nicole Jones, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
James O. Williams is preceded in death by his wife Erma Jean Williams, parents Clifford and Lina Williams, his brothers David Williams, Jessie Clifton Williams, Curley V. Williams, William Franklin, Horace Williams, and his sisters Roberta High and Lucille Britt. Viewing will be held Saturday March 15, 2025, form 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Funeral Services at 11 a.m. at True Believes Baptist Church 603 Sparks Circle Wills Point.
Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Wills Point, Texas.
