davidb@vanzandtnews.com During their regular meeting Sept. 26, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a new contract with the Animal Protection League for spaying and neutering services for dogs and cats belonging to residents of VZC.

Throughout Texas, numerous quilt guilds have been making and donating quilts to the victims of the flood in Kerrville area. As was previously reported, the Texas Star Quilter’s Guild of Canton started a program to make the donation quilts.

The Neches River Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held its regular meeting on Sept. 20 at the Van Zandt County/ Sarah Norman Library in Canton.

In last week’s issue of the News, the name of a church celebrating its 130th anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 5 was misidentified.

Pleasant Union Baptist Church, located at 2360 VZCR 3701 in Edgewood, will be celebrating its 130th year during Homecoming activities Sunday, Oct. 5.
