Accident claims life of Lancaster woman

A two vehicle-accident approximately two miles east of Canton along State Highway 64 resulted in the death of a Lancaster woman and three others being sent to area hospitals for treatment. According to a preliminary accident report released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident occurred shortly after noon at approximately 12:20 p.m.on Sunday, April 30 and involved a 1992 Oldsmobile 88 and a 2020 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Wills Point mayor pens letter to appraisal district

Many property owners around Van Zandt County have been treated to an unwelcome dose of sticker shock in recent weeks, receiving letters from the appraisal district outlining sizeable increases in both residential and commercial property values.

Letter carriers to conduct food drive

Special called election for VZC ESD #3 scheduled

A special called election for Van Zandt County Emergency Services District #3 is scheduled for Saturday, May 6. The proposition on the ballot reads, “the adoption of a local sales and use tax in VZC ESD #3 at the rate of two percent.” The only voting location, Early Voting or Election Day, for the election is at the Holly Springs United Methodist Church in Martins Mill.

Residents encouraged to protest appraisals

More than 300 people made their way to the Van Zandt County Appraisal District Office this week, bringing their concerns about recently released 2023 tax appraisals before the board April 25. With the primary meeting room well at capacity, an overflow crowd gathered in adjoining offices and hallways.

Early voting ends May 2 for VZC city, school elections
