Johnson recognized for 20 years of service

During their regular monthly meeting April 11, the Van City Council recognized City of Van Public Works Director Kevin Johnson for his 20 years of service to the city. A ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ plaque was presented to Johnson by Van Mayor Tammy Huff.

Bronze plaque dedicated at courthouse

Agood crowd was on hand for an outdoor ceremony on the north side steps of the Van Zandt County Courthouse April 12 for a dedication ceremony and unveiling of a bronze plaque commemorating the historic ‘Victory or Death’ letter authorized by William Barret Travis at The Alamo in 1836. The event was hosted by VZC and The Alamo Letter Society.
A 200-pound bronze plaque in recognition of the 220-word ‘Victory or Death’ Letter was dedicated April 12 on the northside steps of the VZC Courthouse. VZC was the fourth county in the state to receive the plaque from The Alamo Letter Society, who is attempting to place the plaque in all 254 courthouses throughout the state. Photo by Faith Caughron

Early voting begins April 22 for city, school elections

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Early Voting for the Saturday, May 4 city and school elections in Van Zandt County is scheduled to begin Monday, April 22, and continue through Tuesday, April 30. City elections will be held in Grand Saline, Van, and Wills Point while school elections will take place in Edgewood, Fruitvale, and Van.
