Mustangs win Class 2A, Division 2, boys' State Basketball Championship over Lipan, 55-43

Following the lead of the girls’ team the week before, the Martins Mill Mustangs’ varsity boys’ basketball team came home with their own Class 2A, Division 2, State Championship trophy as they knocked off two-time defending state champion Lipan, 55-43, March 6 at The Alamodome in San Antonio.
It was the first boys’ State Basketball Championship for Martins Mill in 76 years, 1949.
Coach Greg Jenkins’ team was led in scoring by Jak Kinder with 19 points followed by Arch Schneider with 18 points.
Other Martins Mill scorers included Sawyer Moore and Ryder Marsh with six points each, Cooper Wright with four, and Travis Baber with two. Marsh also had 10 rebounds.
After the two teams were tied at 11-11 after the first quarter, the Mustangs began pulling away from Lipan as Martins Mill led 23-20 at halftime and 38-29 at the end of the third quarter.
