susan@vanzandtnews.com The Republican Club of Van Zandt County convened an important meeting on Tuesday evening, May 27, featuring key speakers including VZC Judge Andy Reese and local developer Mitchell Kaufman.

Local developer Mitchell Kaufman (left) was introduced to speak May 27 during the regular monthly meeting of the Republican Club of Van Zandt County by RCVZC President Doc Collins. The meeting was held at the VZC Farm Bureau Event Center in Canton. The meeting was moved from its normal fourth Monday of the month meeting date due to the Memorial Day holiday. Rains County JP booked into VZC Jail on multiple charges

Rains County Justice of the Peace Robert Jenkins Franklin was arrested May 28 on two counts of official oppression and two counts of tampering with a witness. “He was booked into our jail on another county’s charges, two counts of Official Oppression and two counts of tampering with a witness,” pointed out Van Zandt County Sheriff Kevin Bridger, who confirmed the arrest and booking into the VZC Jail to Van Zandt Newspapers May 29.
