The Myrtle Springs Cemetery Association is hosting a fall cemetery workday on Saturday, Oct. 9. The Association is looking for help with trimming trees and shrubs, cleaning the fence rows, raking leaves, and general clean up at the cemetery. The public is invited to help.

Well, finally! Cooler weather is coming and so we turn our thoughts to comfort food. This one is an absolute necessity if you want to make Thanksgiving dressing, or if you roast a chicken and need the best side dish ever. This recipe calls for buttermilk, but if you don’t have any you can make some. For each cup of buttermilk, add 1tablespoon of white vinegar to a cup of milk and let it sit for 10 minutes—buttermilk! Speaking of that, my dad loved to crumble his cornbread into a glass of buttermilk and eat it with a spoon. He also hated sweet cornbread (“why don’t they just go ahead and make cake?”). So if you prefer it sweet, add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the batter.

On Sept. 24, VZC Sheriff Hendrix presented the new look of the VZC Sheriff’s Office marked patrol cars. Sheriff Hendrix stated, “I appreciate the strong working relationship we have with our Commissioners Court. Rusty Gaston, Van High School Class of 1994, was named as a ‘Distinguished Alumnus’ at VHS during Homecoming pre-game ceremonies Sept. 24 at Van’s Memorial Stadium.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in locating a missing adult. Todd Moses disappeared on or about Sept. 16, 2021, from the Grand Saline area. His vehicle was recovered, howev- er his whereabouts are still unknown. Todd is 50 years old, 5’6”, 150 pounds, medium build. Todd has “Rebel” tattooed on the left side of his neck and a lightning bolt in a cloud tattooed on his left hand. If you have any information, please contact the VZSO at 903-567-4133.
