Vets Memorial to hold program May 30

Memorial Day will again take on a special meaning in Van Zandt County as the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial Board has announced that they will be hosting their annual program beginning at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30, at the VZC Veterans Memorial in Canton.

The Fruitvale Lady Cats entered the softball season looking for a fresh start after coming off a 1-18 campaign the previous year. Fruitvale more than accomplished that feat, improving their overall record to 19-10 while also climbing up to 9 th in the state according to the most recent 1A softball rankings.

Hubble places third in shot put

The Canton athletic program was well represented in Austin May 12 with three different athletes, Hannah Cade, Preston Yarber and Jaxson Hubble, qualifying to compete at this year’s Class 4A State Track and Field Meet May 12-13.

‘Open Mic Night’ scheduled in Van

The City of Van and the Van EDC (Economic Development Corporation) are sponsoring ‘3rd Thursdays with Erin York’ featuring an ‘Open Mic Night’ at The Movie House in downtown Van. The first ‘Open Mic Night’ was held May 19.

Locally Forged open on Sunday in Ben Wheeler

A ribbon cutting ceremony for a Locally Forged Farmers Market in Edom was held May 15 at The Forge Bar & Grill in Ben Wheeler. This is DJ Warren’s third season of bringing locally sourced goods to the communities of Ben Wheeler and Edom. This means that all goods at Locally Forged are made or grown by those selling them.
