Animal control among topics discussed at seminar

davidb@vanzandtnews.com Several Van Zandt County residents were in attendance May 10 for the first-ever ‘What’s Up in VZC?’ Seminar held at the Senior Citizens building in Canton. A number of elected officials and other speakers brought up a number of topics, but animal control ended up resulting in the most comments and questions.

Commissioners’ court changes date for next meeting

During a special called meeting May 13, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court announced that they have moved the date of their next regular meeting. The meeting date has been moved from Wednesday, May 22 to Tuesday, May 21 beginning at 9 a.m.

Van council addresses police staffing

Following much discussion, the Van City Council approved in a 4-0 vote to adjust the staffing levels of the Van Police Department to enhance recruitment and retention of officers. The action was taken by the council during its regular monthly meeting May 9.
