TJC summer camp offers kids a look at ‘med school’

Kids ages 8-13 recently spent a week exploring the wonders of medical science in Pre-Med Academy, part of Tyler Junior College’s extensive list of STEMrelated summer camps. “The main objective of this camp is to inspire young students to investigate and pursue careers in medicine through TJC and beyond,” said Natalie Wade, TJC anatomy and physiology instructor and camp coordinator.

Homeschool participation in UIL events discussed

During their regular monthly meeting June 16, the Van School Board shared opposing views among its members about allowing homeschool students to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities.

‘Teachers of the Year’ for 2022 recognized by Van ISD

The 2022 Van ISD Honor Banquet, held April 11 at the Hideaway Clubhouse, featured recognition of the ‘Teacher of the Year’ at each campus. Van School Board President Scott Thomas welcomed those in attendance at the Hideaway Clubhouse.

Barber named to dean’s list

Body
Jillian Barber of Canton was named to the Fall 2021 dean’s list at LeTourneau University. The dean’s list recognizes students who have achieved a grade point average between 3.50 and 3.99 for the semester. Barber is majoring in BBA Management.

MMISD STUDENTS TAKE ON ECONOMICS

The Economic Class at Martins Mill High School participated in the Capitol Hill Challenge which is a national stock market competition. The team of Christopher Cosgrave, Teacher Courtney Burns and Keylee Latham was named one of the teams in the top 10. This 14-week competition engages public middle and high school students in every congressional district to teach the importance of saving and investing, while promoting a better understanding of the US government and fiscal policymaking.
