During the regular meeting of the VZC Commissioners Court June 17, VZC Judge Andy Reese announced that the VZC Historical Commission had received the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) for 2025 by the state.

March 9, 1961 – June 12, 2026 Patricia Ann McWilliams, 65, passed away Friday, June 12, 2026, in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on March 9, 1961, in Canton to Olen and Lois (Jenkins) Dorsey.

Bobbi ‘Breanne’ Talbott of Wills Point traveled to Abilene June 4-13 to compete in the Texas High School Rodeo Association (THSRA) state finals. The state finals rodeo is an annual week-long event where high school students across Texas and surrounding states come and compete.

Correspondent The Wills Point City Council set their collective sights on local infrastructure improvements during their June 9 session, discussing various grant pursuits while also discussing which local streets would be in line for rehabilitation efforts during Fiscal Year 2027.

Fourth of July and America’s 250th Birthday Celebrations will start happening before July 4 in Van Zandt County as Van, Grand Saline, and Wills Point will be hosting holiday activities on Saturday, June 27. Canton will be hosting their downtown activities on Saturday, July 4.

The 29th Annual East Texas Baptist Camp Meeting will take place June 21- 26 starting at 7 p.m. each evening at the Canton Civic Center.
