DAVID BARBER davidb@vanzandtnews.com Authorizing Van Zandt County Judge Andy Reese to close on the purchase of the Paul Michael building on State Highway 19 in Canton was tabled by the VZC Com- missioners Court during its regular meeting April 9. Late last year, the commissioners’ court agreed to a down payment of $60,000 for the building with a final decision on buying the building at a cost of $4.2 million being required by July.
Over two months has passed since the Martins Mill Mustang and Lady Mustang varsity basketball teams claimed their Class 2A, Division 2, State Basketball Championships, but the celebrating continued April 10 as both teams were honored and recognized with a parade and rally.
Early Voting for the Saturday, May 3 city and school elections in Van Zandt County begins Tuesday, April 22. Elections will be held in the City of Grand Saline, the City of Van, Fruitvale ISD, Grand Saline ISD, Canton ISD, Wills Point ISD, and the City of Wills Point.

The Grand Saline and Edgewood varsity track teams were represented April 10 in Eustace at the Class 3A Area 15, 16 Track and Field Meet. Individual results for Grand Saline and Edgewood in the Area track and field meet were as follows: Boys’ 100-Meter Dash Bryan Paniagua, Edgewood, eighth place, 11.82 seconds.
Voters in the City of Van will have the opportunity to vote in a $3.5 million bond election to address drilling, constructing, and improving Water Well #3. The order of election was called in a unanimous vote by the Van City Council during its regular monthly meeting Feb.
The Grand Saline School Board recently called for a $34.75 million bond election to take place on May 3 to build a new Grand Saline Middle School campus. According to Grand Saline ISD Superintendent Micah Lewis, Early Voting is scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 22 and conclude on Tuesday, April 29 from 7 a.m.
The Texas Star Quilters Guild (TSQG) will be presenting Amanda Davis at their monthly meeting on April 21. Davis is a local quilt judge and will be sharing her knowledge and tips on just how quilts are judged at shows.
