Canton ISD releases letter following bus accident

Canton ISD released a letter from Canton ISD Superintendent Brian Nichols that was sent to parents following a March 5 accident involving a school district bus. “We want to inform you of an incident involving one of our school buses that occurred earlier today (March 5) on Highway 64,” said Nichols in the letter.

Winning state championships has become the norm rather than the exception for the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs’ basketball program in recent years. Not only did the Lady Mustangs win their eighth state championship in their last 19 state tournament appearances Feb.
For the second year in a row, the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs earned the title of Class 2A, Division 2, State Basketball Champions with a 43-41 overtime win over Farwell in the state championship game played Feb. 27 in San Antonio. Mustangs advance to state championship game

With the girls’ varsity basketball team winning the state championship Feb. 27, the Martins Mill Mustangs boys’ varsity squad were hoping to come home with a state title trophy of their own as they faced two-time defending state champion Lipan March 6 at The Alamodome in San Antonio.

Martins Mill captures another state basketball title

It wasn’t easy but the Martins Mill Lady Mustangs are Class 2A, Division 2, State Champions in basketball for the second year in a row. After a game-tying basket by Lady Mustang junior Allison Vaughan with five seconds remaining in regulation, Martins Mill survived in overtime to capture a 43-41 victory over Farwell Feb.

Student Success Series event planned for local students

Students in the graduating classes of 2026 and 2027 can sign up to participate in this year’s Engage program offered through Texas Farm Bureau’s (TFB) Student Success Series. The program helps students develop leadership skills, explore potential career opportunities, network with their peers in the area and meet Farm Bureau staff and members.

VFW Post 12219 to meet in Canton March 13

Thursday, March 13 is the next meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 12219 at the Canton Senior Citizens Building. The regular business meeting begins at approximately 7 p.m.

State sales tax revenue totaled $3.8 Billion in Feb.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said March 3 that state sales tax revenue totaled $3.8 billion in February, 4.3 percent more than in February 2024. The majority of February sales tax revenue is based on sales made in January and remitted to the agency in February.
