The Van Zandt County Genealogical Society will have its regular monthly meeting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, at the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library located at 317 First Monday Lane (FM 859) in Canton.

Joe Zoubi, the visionary proprietor of Dukes Plaza and Craft 64 Sports Bar located on State Highway 64 at the intersection of Interstate 20 in Canton is embarking on an exciting new venture that promises to reshape the local community.

In the world of education and athletics, leadership changes are inevitable. New presidents, superintendents, principals, and other school leaders frequently step into their roles with the promise of innovation and improvement.

This proposed bill is about spending our public tax dollars on private school vouchers (please see the article in the Van Zandt News, March 2 issue, page 3). Updates to this proposed bill are summarized here: This bill was recently revised and now increases the basic allotment per student by $220.00 from $6,160.00 to $6,380.00, which is still woefully inadequate, however, it also increases the amount for private school vouchers from $10,000.00 to about $10,893.00 so the loss per student is even greater than the original bill.

January 22,1950- March 4, 2025 Eddie Wayne Hale, 75, of Wills Point passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Dallas, surrounded by his loving family. The family will have a private service at a later date.

February 28, 1937 – March 5, 2025 Services for Lillian ‘Lil’ Hipp, 88, of the Phalba Community, were held Monday, March 10, 2025, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Brent Williams officiating.

July 9, 1933 – March 4, 2025 Services for Mary Frances Cline Snyder, 91, of Canton, were held Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Emory Church of Christ, Emory, with Cody McCoy officiating, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church.

September 27,1938 - March 7, 2025 Paul Wayne Pool, 86, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, with family at his side. He is now at rest in the presence of His Savior Jesus.
