Commissioners vote to buy property for potential new jail site

davidb@vanzandtnews.com In a 3-1 vote, the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court authorized VZC Judge Andy Reese to sign a contract and to also authorize the payment of $60,000 in earnest money for the purchase of property that could be used as the site for a potential new VZC jail facility.
Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department Captain Melonie Williams and VZC Sheriff Joe Carter discussed the need to exceed their budget by 25 percent to address automotive maintenance needs as well as the need to repair and maintain buildings at the VZC Jail. Vandals well represented on All-District football team

Three members of the Van Vandal varsity football team received ‘Superlative’ honors as the District 7-4A, Division 2, All-District Football Team was recently announced. Coach Jared Moffatt’s Vandals finished 10-4 overall as they advanced to the state quarterfinal round of the Class 4A, Division 2, state playoffs.

Way back in 1962 at the tender age of 12 when I harvested my first whitetail in the pine and hardwood forest of Northeast Texas, I thought my iron-sighted lever action 30-30 was all the rifle I would ever need for hunting deer.

The annual Van Zandt County Friends of the Library Christmas Bow Project is held every year to fund the purchase of new children’s books for the VZC/Sarah Norman Library in Canton. “Every individual or business who donates will have their name on a bow decorating the library Christmas tree,” said a VZC Friends of the Library Christmas Bow Project spokesperson.
