Preparations continue for the 2024 Community Health Fair that will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Neches River Chapter in Van Zandt County will be hosting ‘Bells Across America’ as VZC will be honoring the United States Constitution. The program is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.

The Van Area Chamber of Commerce held its quarterly luncheon Sept. 3 with Cameron Lowery of Diamond L Veterinary Service of Wills Point and the Grand Saline Veterinary Clinic serving as the guest speaker.

The demolition of the old bridge at the intersection of Interstate 20 and FM 859 in Canton is still on schedule for the weekend of Sept. 7 and Sept. 8, according to Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Tyler District Public Information Officer Jeff Williford.

The Canton High School Running Eagles ran at the Mineola Invitational on Friday, August 30. In the Varsity Girls division, Mikela Smalling led the way finishing 15th out of 130 runners with a time of 13:03.

The Van Lady Vandals captured the consolation title in the Caddo Mills Tournament Aug. 31 with a 25-17, 21-25, 2521 victory over Community.

The Edgewood varsity boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams competed at the Mineola Cross-Country Meet on Aug. 30.

With a winning percentage of 82, Dale Beard of Murchison is the winner of Football Contest No. 1 in the Van Zandt News.
