1929-2024 Anabel Evalyn Spiva, 95, of Wills Point, TX, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in Tyler. Arrangements were made under the direction of Hiett’s Ly-Brand Funeral Home.

Union Chapel Decoration Day set Decoration Day for the Union Chapel Cemetery is set for Saturday, April 26. The annual business meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m.

‘Victory or Death’ Letter.

Agood crowd was on hand for an outdoor ceremony on the north side steps of the Van Zandt County Courthouse April 12 for a dedication ceremony and unveiling of a bronze plaque commemorating the historic ‘Victory or Death’ letter authorized by William Barret Travis at The Alamo in 1836. The event was hosted by VZC and The Alamo Letter Society.

Seven teams will be advancing to the state fishing tournament with the Grand Saline High School Bass Association (GSHSBA) next month. “Lake Tawakoni wasn’t sharing its treasures with this tournament easily,” said a GSHSBA spokesperson.

During their regular monthly meeting April 11, the Van City Council recognized City of Van Public Works Director Kevin Johnson for his 20 years of service to the city. A ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ plaque was presented to Johnson by Van Mayor Tammy Huff.

1963-2024 Frances Mae Cupit was born August 18,1958 to Burnie Lee Perry and Frances Louella Smith Perry. She passed April 3, 2024.
