Nelda Jean McCauley, 87, of Canton passed away peacefully in Arlington on April 18, 2025. She was born on October 5, 1937, in Canton to Homer Dewitt Wages Sr. and Della Mae Crabtree Wages. She was the youngest girl of 11 children.

Vandals, Lady Vandals compete in Regional Track and Field Meet

Van was well represented during the Class 4A Regional Track and Field Meet held April 18, 19 at East Texas A&M University in Commerce. Results of the Vandal and Lady Vandal participants in the Regional Track and Field Meet were as follows: Girls’ 100-Meter Dash McKenzi Crawford, fifth place, 12.37 seconds.

FBC, Canton to host Open House and Dedication Service

First Baptist Church of Canton, located at 303 South Athens Street, will be hosting an Open House and Dedication Service for the Grand Opening of their new Student Center facility Wednesday, April 30.

Bond election totaling $34.75 million set for May 3 in GSISD

The Grand Saline School Board recently called for a $34.75 million bond election to take place on May 3 to build a new Grand Saline Middle School campus. According to Grand Saline ISD Superintendent Micah Lewis, Early Voting began will conclude on Tuesday, April 29, from 7 a.m.

The 74th Annual National Day of Prayer program is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, in the Van Zandt County District Courtroom located on the third floor of the VZC Courthouse. The program, which is held each year on the first Thursday in May, will run from 12:15-12:45 p.m.

Bond election set for May 3 in the City of Van

Voters in the City of Van will have the opportunity to vote in a $3.5 million bond election to address drilling, constructing, and improving Water Well #3. The order of election was called in a unanimous vote by the Van City Council during its regular monthly meeting Feb.
