Funeral services for Mary Lydonia Weeks, 90, of Wills Point, were held Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Burial followed at Creagleville Cemetery. Mary passed away on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at her home. Mary Lydonia Raymond was born on May 19, 1931, in Grand Saline, to parents, Charlie Gilbert Raymond and Martha Bernice Tharp Raymond.

William Wayne Tippett

William Wayne Tippett, Jr., 53, of Canton, passed away Nov. 10, 2021, in Athens. He was born Nov. 28, 1967, in Grand Saline. He served in the US Navy and then worked as a roughneck in the oilfield. Mr. Tippett was preceded in death by his father, William Wayne Tippett, Sr. Survivors include his mother and stepdad, Frankie and Bobby Phillips of Grand Saline.

The Grand Saline Lady Indians earned some county bragging rights last week, besting the Fruitvale Lady Cats 50-28 in a non-district showdown to close out the month of November. Grand Saline played well early in the contest, weathering a pair of early three-pointers by the Lady Cats to take 13-6 lead after eight minutes of play.
