Salt Palace receives new facade

The Salt Palace Museum in GrandSaline is getting a new facelift thisweek after the old walls made out ofsalt are being torn down and new saltwalls are going up.Grand Saline Salt Palace Museumofficials stated that the process of removingthe old walls and replacingthem with fresh walls is done every 15to 20 years. There have been three previouswalls that have been replaced.Officials also stated that the walls meltor erode over time and the loss of saltcan leave big holes in the walls.The Morton Salt Company providedthe salt blocks for the new wall and theold salt wall will be hauled off.

The Edgewood Bulldogs bested a field that included Caddo Mills, Life Oak Cliff, Quinlan Ford, Scurry-Rosser, Winnsboro, Wills Point and Sunnyvale to win the 55th annual Jack Shellnutt Invitational Tournament Dec. 2-4. The win marked Edgewood’s 20th ever title at the event, and first since 2017. Lady Vandals win Grand Saline tourney

The Van Lady Vandals stayed close to home last week, making the short trip to Grand Saline to compete in the annual Eddie Rogers Memorial Tournament. Van would go on to dominate the event, winning all four games by at least 20 points each to claim this year’s varsity title.

Lady Dogs finish third at Hoopfest

The Edgewood Lady Dogs have been a team on a mission throughout the opening weeks of the 2021-’22 season, routinely registering wins against larger schools and perennial playoff contenders. Last week proved to be no exception as the Lady Dogs traveled to Winnsboro to compete in the Lady Raiders’ annual Hoopfest Tournament.

UIL conference cutoff numbers released

The UIL released enrollment figures and cutoff numbers for its biennial redistricting process Dec. 8, providing a general outline of how schools throughout the state will be classified for the the 2022-’23 and 2023-’24 school years.

Vandals fall to Yellowjackets in thriller

The Van Vandals and Mineola Yellowjackets delivered an early season thriller on Tuesday night, battling down to the wire in a highly competitive game that would come down to the final few possessions. Mineola would get the better of Van in the matchup, connecting on a late three-pointer to secure a 47- 44 victory.
