Early surge carries Lady Indians to win

The Grand Saline Lady Indians accomplished a pair of goals on Tuesday night against Edgewood, building up positive momentum with the playoffs looming just over the horizon sweep of the Lady Dogs. Grand Saline and Edgewood had met once before this season with the Lady Indians powering their way to an 8-0 win back on March 24.

Bulldogs claim rivalry bragging rights

editor@vanzandtnews.com The Edgewood Bulldogs made their way to Grand Saline on Tuesday night, taking on the Indians for the first of two scheduled district matchups between the programs this season. Edgewood would make it look easy in the contest, pounding out 15 hits on dent on the scoreboard during the first two innings, keeping the score tied at 0-0 heading into the top of the third. The tenor of the game would change from there as Edgewood plated three runs to seize control.

Eagles, Vandals among District 16-4A competitors

Athletes representing the Canton and Van track and field programs made their way to Lindale April 12, squaring off against competitors from Athens, Brownsboro, Cumberland Academy, Lindale and Mabank at this year’s District 16-4A Meet.

The Van Vandals crossed paths with a familiar foe this week, making the short drive to Brownsboro to take on the Bears in a District 16-4A tilt April 18. Two bad innings would prove to be the difference in the contest as Brownsboro powered its way to a 10-1 win over the Vandals.

Youthful Van claims district title

The Van Lady Vandals staked their claim as the top program in District 16-4A last week, upending the Athens Lady Hornets 5-0 behind a stellar pitching performance from freshman Jailey Potter and timely hitting offensively. Potter would keep Athens hitters at bay throughout the night, allowing just three hits while striking out six in a complete game win.

Indians, Bulldogs race at District 12-3A Meet

Athletes representing both Edgewood and Grand Saline made their way to Emory Rains High School April 5-6, hoping to extend their respective seasons by at least one week while competing at the District 12-3A Track and Field Meet.

Grace throws no-hitter as Bulldogs cruise

The Edgewood Bulldogs continued their march towards postseason play last week, crossing paths with the Prairiland Patriots April 7 for the second time in in the first matchup April 4, dominating from start to finish in an eventual 6-1 win.

GS Indians pummel Paris Chisum, 8-0

DAVID KAPITAN sports@vanzandtnews.com The Grand Saline Indians made it look easy on Tuesday night as five players finished with at least two hits each in an 8-0 rout of the Paris Chisum Mustangs. After a slow start by both squads, Grand Saline scored a run in the third inning and two more in the fourth to seize a 3-0 lead.
