Ricky Ewell Tidwell
November 26, 1948 – May 7, 2025
A Celebration of Life Service for Ricky Ewell Tidwell will be held on Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Church, 1930 S. Trade Days Blvd, Canton. Ricky passed away peacefully at his home in Wimberley on May 7, 2025, after battling heart disease for several years.
He was adamant about not spending his last days in a hospital and spent his final days surrounded by his wife, Jan; daughter, Jodi; son, Jeremy; and his grandchildren.
Born on November 26, 1948, in the Walnut Springs Community to Ewell and Atrell Tidwell, Ricky attended Canton Independent School District for all 12 years of school, where he played football and basketball, graduating in 1967.
Ricky was a hard worker his entire life. After growing up working on the family farm alongside his father, brothers, and sisters, he became a skilled carpenter and building contractor.
He was proud of the beautiful homes he built, including his home in Wimberley, and especially proud to work alongside his sons, Jeremy and Jason, his grandson AJ, and many nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ewell and Atrell Rowan Tidwell; his devoted son, Jason Gabriel Tidwell; and his much-loved older brother, Ronnie Tidwell.
He was also preceded by his father and mother-inlaw, F.A. Phillips Jr. and Mary Sue Ashworth Phillips; his precious niece, Rhonda Pitts Scroggins; and his brothers-in-law, Cloyce Perkins and Robert Pitts.
Ricky is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jan Phillips Tidwell; his children, Jodi Tidwell Bourne and husband, Michael Bourne; and Jeremy Tidwell and wife, Melissa Tidwell; and his grandchildren, Aaron Jace (AJ) Huddle, Savannah Huddle, Kati Carnahan, and Ray Tidwell.
He is also survived by his sisters, Lavoise Perkins and Wyvonne Pitts; his brother, Jerry Tidwell and wife, Theresa Tidwell; and his sister-in-law, Jackie Tidwell.
Ricky dearly loved his nine surviving nieces and nephews, their spouses, children, and grandchildren, along with countless friends.
Friends are invited to join us for this informal celebration and to share memories and stories of Ricky. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Van Zandt County/Sarah Norman Library.
