Doug Grimes
1962-2024
Doug Grimes, 62, of Canton passed away peacefully May 9, 2024, at UT Health in Tyler.
Doug was born March 9, 1962, in Grayson County to the late Kenneth Grimes and the late Judy (Griffin) Grimes.
Douglas attended the Canton public schools at an early age until he graduated from CHS in 1980.
His ninth-grade year, he was voted ‘Class Clown’ at Canton High School. He loved making people laugh and was known to be quite the jokester.
He also enjoyed playing football for the Canton Eagles throughout his teen years. Doug loved sports and earned the nickname ‘Coach’ from coaching the girls’ T-ball team, ‘The Roses.’ You could find him on the court coaching girls basketball as well. Win or lose, he adored the game and was always very proud of the girls.
Mr. Grimes worked as a manager at Pizza Hut and later went on to manage the Sonic Drive-In in Canton for many years.
Doug had a great voice and enjoyed singing karaoke where he was known to entertain the crowd. His favorites were ‘Neon Moon’ by Brooks and Dunn and ‘Kiss by Prince, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.
Douglas was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Merl Grimes; mother, Judy Grimes; sister Gina Podhorecka; and infant grandchild Elijah Grimes.
He is survived by his children Lindsay Grimes (Wills Point), Summer Grimes (Ben Wheeler), Caitlyn Bambico (Forney); brother Dan Grimes (Arlington); sister Dana (Grimes) Rustad (Minnesota); 10 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and his beloved cat, Bob.
A ‘Go Fund Me’ account has been set up to ease the burden of funeral expenses with Sharon McDaniel as the organizer of the account, a long-time friend of the family from Midlothian.
All donations will go towards final expenses and a memorial service to celebrate his life.
