David Hugh Bates, 82 of Terrell, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

David was born on Oct. 10, 1940, to the late John and Daisy Bates in Wills Point. He graduated with the class of 1959 from Wills Point High School. David married his beloved wife Charlie Oxford on July 17, 1965. Together they were members of Cobb Baptist Church. Over the years David worked for Flanigan’s Grocery Story during his high school years. Joined the Navy for three years then joined the Army National Guard to work at Nike Missile Base, T.I. for three years and owned and operated the Dairy Mart in Wills Point for 18 years. In 2001 he retired from Lance Snack Food after working 15 years with them. David loved fixing things, camping, leatherwork, being with his family and grandchildren.

David leaves behind his wife, Charlie Bates of Terrell; son, Mike Bates and Paula of Terrell; brothers, James Bates and Kathy of Terrell; Johnny Bates and Laura of Wills Point, and Carl Bates and Becky of Terrell; grandchildren, Monica Doss and Clayton Bates; great-grandchildren, Griffin Doss and Gentry Doss, along with many other loving relatives and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation services for David Hugh Bates were held Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2022, at Mullin-Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022. Online condolences may be made at mullinfullerfuneralhome.com.
