Funeral services for Billy “Waylon” Parker, 88, of Edgewood, were held on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. A private family burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time.
Waylon passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2023, at his home.
Billy Waylon Parker was born on Dec. 12, 1934, in the Lane Community of Edgewood, to parents Coleman Parker and Frieda Inez Norris Parker. He was a life-long resident of Edgewood and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1953. Waylon later attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. He married Bobby Roena Petty on June 6, 1956, and they made their home in Edgewood. Waylon was the owner of Waylon’s Hair Fashions in Terrell. He was a member of the Church of God. Waylon had a love for music and used his exceptional piano playing ability to serve the church and community. He also enjoyed gardening, decorating for Christmas and especially spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Roena.
Waylon is survived by his daughters, Penny Richardson and husband, Bo, of Tyler; Cathy Nelson and husband, Jim, of Moulton, Alabama; Eve Lewis and husband, Charles, of Edgewood, and Nicole Sayre and husband, Sean, of Tyler; grandchildren, Amber Ross and husband, Tony; Tara Symes and husband, Cameron; James Nelson and wife, Holly; Benjamin Nelson and wife, Brittney; Philip Nelson and wife, McCauley; Hannah Nelson and husband, Jake; Sarah Merriman and husband, John, and Parker Sayre, along with 27 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
