1939-2022

A celebration of life for Barbara Ann Myers, 82, of Edgewood, was held Thursday, October 13, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood. Barbara was laid to rest at the Owyhee Cemetery in Nyssa Or.

Barbara passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at her home.

Barbara was born on November 7, 1939, in Nyssa, OR, to parents Charles A. Myers and Emily Anne Corfield Myers. She was raised on her grandparents Ed and Clara Corfield’s farm in the Owyhee community. After World War II, she and her single mother, working as a telephone operator, lived in and around the Ontario Nyssa area near her grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Barbara married Ronald Leroy Smith of Payette, ID on October 27th, 1956. Two daughters were born to them 21 years apart. Rosemary Smith in 1957 and Holly Beth Smith in 1978. Ronald was employed by Union Pacific Railroad. The family lived in Bountiful, UT, and North Platte, NE with the railroad and Kings River Valley, NV, farming during her marriage. She returned to Nyssa after her divorce to care for her aging mother. Barbara spent many happy years living together with her aunt, Dorothy Shaw, at Nyssa, growing flowers and visiting friends in the area she grew up. She moved to Edgewood to be near her daughter, Rosemary, and husband, Bruce Call, in 2007.

Barbara was welcomed to the community here by the people she met working for the City of Edgewood, her T.O.P.S. club members at Emory and the 1st Baptist Church members where she attended. She enjoyed living in the rural area and the warmer weather.

Barbara was an at home Mom to each of her daughters to elementary school graduation. She then took employment in a sewing factory and later in the dry cleaning and retail industries. After she returned to Nyssa, she was employed at a self-inflating life vest factory. Her last employment was for the City of Edgewood front desk. Due to poor health as a child, Barbara developed a love for reading. She shared her love of books all her life. She taught both daughters to read before school age. Bible studies and sharing the words were a special joy in her life.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Emily A. Myers; daughter, Holly Beth Smith; grandparents, Charles Edward and Clara Anna Corfi eld, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Call and husband, Bruce, of Edgewood.
