Kaufman County hosting local vaccination site

Kaufman County recently announced that it will be hosting a COVID-19 vaccination site each Monday – Saturday from Friday, Sept. 10, through Friday, Oct. 29, at the Shops at Terrell at 301 Tanger Drive, Suite 103 in Terrell (I-20 @ SH 34).

At approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, the Canton Police Department along with EMS and the Canton Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at Interstate 20 and Highway 64. Upon arrival they found a Cadillac SUV and a Chevrolet pickup truck both with major front end damage.

Suspect arrested on three warrants

On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, Van Zandt County Sheriff Hendrix and members of his CID Team arrested Brent Lee Smith in Henderson County. Smith was on three recently obtained warrants out of Van Zandt County.

VZ County has 670 active cases of COVID-19

The Northeast Texas Public Health District reported that there have been 6,800 confirmed or probable cases (cases with a COVID-19 positive antigen test), including 4,037 confirmed cases and 2,763 probable cases as of Monday, Sept. 13, in Van Zandt County.

Tax rate approved by Van Council

Van City Council members took action on a number of items including the adoption of the tax rate for 2021 and fiscal year 2022 duringits regular monthly meeting Sept. 9 at the new Van City Hall location inside the Van Community Center building.

First Baptist Canton celebrates 150 years

The very first service at FBC Canton was held in a rented school building, located on the present site of the First Baptist Church of Canton at 303 Athens St. The Rev. J. B. Daniel was serving as the first pastor, with about 12 charter families in attendance.

On Tuesday, Aug. 31, at approximately 1:30 p.m. Van Zandt County dispatch was notified of a black SUV traveling on westbound Interstate 20 with reports that a man inside the vehicle was displaying a semi-automatic handgun to another commuter traveling down Interstate 20.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, the State of Texas rolled out new state laws impacting the right to carry a handgun without training or permits, along with laws on alcohol sales, medical marijuana, vaccine passports, critical race theory and the Heartbeat Bill.
