August 7, 1937 – August 10, 2024 Hugh Harold Lowe, 87, of Wills Point passed away on August 10, 2024, in Canton. Born on August 7, 1937, in Delhi, Louisiana, to Henry Washington Lowe and Rosa Lena Smith Lowe, Visitation was held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point.

The Van Zandt County Commissioners Court will hold a public hearing on the proposed VZC budget for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14 in the VZC Courthouse Courtroom, Room 204.

For the 15th year in a row, the Van Zandt County Historical Commission was recognized for their efforts as they were presented with the ‘Distinguished Service Award’ (DSA) for 2023 by the Texas Historical Commission (THC).

This past week, I had the opportunity to take a step back in time to Wind Point at Lake Tawakoni. Over four decades ago, I remember fishing here from the bank near the end of the point with a buddy and catching a bunch of catfish.
