Leadership Van Zandt County recognized their Class 5 graduates June 4 during a special ceremony at The Silver Spur Resort in Canton. Leadership VZC is a program sponsored by the Canton Texas Chamber of Commerce, and a committee of business individuals is in charge of the program, according to Canton Texas Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kelli Ridgway.

A number of elected officials have expressed shock and sadness over the sudden passing of Van Zandt County Pct. 2 Commissioner Virgil Melton Jr.

1971 – 2024 Services for Mr. Robert D’Wayne Nix, 52, of Fruitvale, were held Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Bartley Funeral Home, Grand Saline, with Billy Pannell, Eddie Paul Stanley, and Bailey McCartney officiating.

1951 – 2024 Terry Hunter, 72, of Edgewood, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024, at his home. Terry was born July 28, 1951, in Dallas to Bobby Joe and Bobbie Irene Ferguson Hunter.

1932 – 2024 Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Pendleton, 91, of Edgewood were held Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Wills Point. Visitation was held one hour prior to service time.

1961 – 2024 Erica Jo Haptonstall Jessup, 62, passed away peacefully at Hospicare Ithaca on May 10. Erica enlisted in the United States Navy at age 17 after completing high school early.
