The Van Vandal boys’ soccer team captured their biggest win in district play Feb. 6 as they defeated previously undefeated Athens at home, 2-1.

In a battle of Van Zandt County rivals, the Canton Eagles outlasted the Van Vandals, 61-47, in Canton Feb. 6.

Coaches and athletic directors in Van Zandt County expressed surprise over who they will be competing against over the next two school years following the district realignment announcement Feb. 1 by the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL).

1944 – 2024 Ruth Ann Willis, a beloved resident of Wills Point, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, in Tyler, at the age of 79. Her life was celebrated in a funeral service that was held on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home, followed by a burial at Cana Cemetery.

1959 – 2024 Memorial services for Gina Belle Free, 64, of Edgewood, were held Saturday, February 3, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Edgewood. Services were under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

1929 - 2024 Services for Bennie Merle Crow Barber, 94, of Edgewood, were held Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Bright Star Baptist Church near Edgewood with Bro. Rocky Burrow and Bro.

1977 – 2024 Services for Mr. Jeffrey Thomas Darnell, 46, of Rowlett, were held, Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Bartley Funeral Home in Grand Saline.
