DPS launches campaign to fight fentanyl

This month, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) answered Governor Greg Abbott’s call to action for state agencies by launching a new public awareness campaign to highlight the dangers of fentanyl. The multi-pronged campaign includes posting informational signage in DPS buildings, public service announcements at driver license offices statewide and publishing a webpage offering valuable resources.

Average gasoline prices in Texas are unchanged in the last week, averaging $3.13/g Nov. 7, according to GasBuddy's survey of 13,114 stations in Texas. Prices in Texas are 8.7 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 7.4 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has risen 3.4 cents in the last week and stands at $5.32 per gallon.

Eleven county athletes compete at State Meet

Van Zandt County was well represented at the UIL State Cross Country Meet last week with a 11 runners, including representatives from Canton, Martins Mill, Van and Wills Point, competing against the state’s best.

sports@vanzandtnews.com The playoffs continued for three county volleyball programs last week as Canton, Edgewood and Van all took to the court in Area round and Regional Quarterfinal round action. The Lady Dogs and Lady Vandals would each come up short in their third round playoff matchups, while the Canton Eaglettes weathered a game effort from Texarkana Pleasant Grove to reach the Regional Tournament.

Playoffs set to begin for three schools

: Casey Leath and Tim Carroll each had standout nights rushing the ball as Leath finished with 20 carries for 105 yards and Carroll posted 10 carries for 92 yards. Lukas Grace hauled in a teamhigh eight catches for 183 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Brady Bannister caught five passes for 101 yards.
