1939-2022 Graveside services for Mrs. Shirley Marie Fisher, 83, of Grand Saline, were held Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at Woodside Cemetery with Chase Fisher and Austin Fisher officiating, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

1941-2022 Bobby Gene Dollarhyde, 81, passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home near Grand Saline, surrounded by his wife Bennie, his daughter Bobigene, son-in-law Steve, and his hospice nurse, Rhonda. He had been battling diabetes complications and a heart condition for many months.

The Sand Flat Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Saline will be celebrating its 100th birthday Sunday, Sept. 25.

A host of local cross country programs, including runners from Canton, Edgewood, Grand Saline, Martins Mill, Van and Wills Point, made their way to the Canton Sept. 10 to compete at the annual Running Eagles Invitational.

County football programs returned to the gridiron Sept. 9, continuing their respective preparations for district play in several high level contests. Edgewood and Grand Saline would each ace their tests while Canton, Fruitvale, Van and Wills Point all came up short on the scoreboard.

With winning percentages of 71 each, Stefani Curtis of Wills Point and Scott Myers of Mineola are the co-winners of Football Contest No. 3 in the Van Zandt News.

Traffic near the intersection of Main Street and Patterson in Grand Saline was brought to a standstill Sept. 13 after a multi-vehicle accident resulted in a fishing boat being knocked off a trailer and onto the roadway. In a subsequent release, Grand Saline PD officials explained that the incident occurred at approximately 7:48 a.m., with one patient sustaining critical injuries that required CareFlite assistance. Officials added that the accident was currently under investigation as of press time.
