WILDLIFE ON THE MOVE

The Van Zandt County Library welcomed Wildlife on the Move on June 17. The presentation was part of the Van Zandt County Library Summer Reading program held every Friday at the library. There were 120 children and 84 adults who attended Friday’s program. Numerous animals were presented to the crowd including snakes, lizards, iguanas, a possum and more. The children delighted in having a hands-on presentation of the many animals that Wildlife on the Move members brought with them. Courtesy photo

Wild chase ends with arrest of wanted man

HENDERSON COUNTY–A wild chase from Athens to Corsicana occured in the afternoon of June 15. According to a press release, the chase ended when Henderson County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Investigators arrested a wanted man who was also in possession of contraband.

Homeschool participation in UIL events discussed

During their regular monthly meeting June 16, the Van School Board shared opposing views among its members about allowing homeschool students to participate in University Interscholastic League (UIL) activities.

HENDERSON COUNTY— In a letter from Henderson County Attorney Clint Davis and Henderson County District Attorney Jenny Palmer, they state that the former Caney City Police Chief Charles Gregory will face a charge of cruelty to animals.

Zachary James Norman—a loving son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend—passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the age of 27. Zachary, the son of Gary and María Norman Conchas, was born on August 2, 1994, in Dallas.

Octavia (Sis) Kirkland Hill

Body
Octavia (Sis) Kirkland Hill was born on August 10, 1926, in Van Zandt County and went home to be with her Lord on June 10, 2022. She peacefully passed away on the same homestead where she was born 95 years ago. She was the first of three daughters born to William Abe and Flora Davis Kirkland. Waiting for her in her heavenly home was her husband of 46 years, Howard Hill; her parents, William Abe and Flora Kirkland; sisters, Bessie Mae Smith and Miriam Tullos, and her niece, Vicki Kling.
