Lady Dogs close in on district title

The Edgewood Lady Dogs put themselves on the doorstep of an outright district title last week, besting both Paris Chisum and Lone Oak in consecutive games to push their district mark to 9-0 overall with just three games to play.

Lady Mustangs cruise past Cross Roads

The Martins Mill Lady Mustangs continued to live up to their lofty billing this week, easily dismissing the Cross Roads Lady Cats to retain their perfect record in district play. Martins Mill, ranked se cond overall in the state according to the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Weekly 2A Rankings, never trailed in the contest.

Mustangs dominate Bobcats

The Martins Mill Mustangs continued to charge full speed ahead towards postseason play this week, dominating from start to finish in a 74-33 win over Cross Roads in Malakoff Jan. 25.

Bulldogs extend winning streak

The Edgewood Bulldogs moved two steps closer towards securing a playoff position last week, hitting the court twice for matchups a pair of home contests against Paris Chiusm and Lone Oak. Edgewood would prevail in both contests, improving their odds of securing a top-four finish in district play and a spot in this year’s 3A UIL Playoffs.

Southers gets 500th win as Lady Vandals roll

The Van Lady Vandals accomplished multiple goals on Tuesday night, strengthening their bid for a spot in this year’s playoffs while also getting head coach Warren Southers career victory 500 with a 70-39 win over Athens.

Only 43% vaccinated for COVID

The upswing of newly confirmed and possible COVID-19 cases within the confines of Van Zandt County continued last week with the Northeast Texas Public Health District announcing 300 new cases over the seven-day reporting period from Jan. 10-17.

Master Gardeners ask for funds to spruce up courthouse
