Tunnels honored for Vandal legacy

Longtime Vandal supporters, Buddy and Carolyn Tunnell, were honored during the Van ISD School Board meeting with the Forever Vandal Award by the Van ISD Board of Trustees for their dedication, devotion, and love for Van ISD students. “Mr. and Mrs. Tunnell loved children of all ages. They supported our youngest Vandals through their volunteer work each week in Literacy Partners and our older Vandals by showing up to nearly every Vandal sporting event to cheer them on! Mr. and Mrs. Tunnell are moving to be closer to their children and will be sorely missed in our community.

Lady Tigers take second at Palestine

The Wills Point Lady Tigers have set a lightning fast pace throughout the opening weeks of the 2021 volleyball season, notching wins at an impressive clip as they continue their march towards the start of district play. After suffering a four-set loss during their first match of the year Aug. 10, the Lady Tigers roared back with an impressive run at the Palestine Varsity Tournament Aug. 12-14.

Learning to read

Do you remember the books you read in first grade?

I sure do. And I fondly recall spelling tests, recess, flavored milk, and a girl name Lynne. I still drink flavored milk, but my wife tells me a recess with Lynne today is unacceptable.

The best part of school was the “Dick and Jane” stories that taught us to read.

OVERCOMING ADVERSITY

Adversity is an unavoidable part of life. Death of a loved one, breakup of a relationship, malicious action by another, job loss, natural disaster, or any other undesirable event are all circumstances people encounter. Events happen that are beyond our control.

Successfully overcoming adversity is essential for a healthy life. Overcoming adversity builds mental strength, character and endurance. You develop in ways that would not otherwise be possible.
