Teams race at Kaufman Invitational

The Canton Running Eagles and Wills Point Tiger cross country teams hit the road last week, traveling to Kaufman to compete in the annual Run with the Lions Invitational Cross Country Meet.

Wills Point finished the event with a fourth-place finish in the varsity boys division with 107 total points, behind Kaufman with 51 points, Commerce with 83 points and Eustace with 93 points. Canton placed sixth overall with 165 total points out of 13 competing schools.

Individual results in the varsity boys division included:

-Canton: Clayton Sudduth, 15th, 18:15.52; Miguel Arce, 23rd , 18:49.3; Kevin Velazquez, 25th, 18:53.87; Lance Humphrey, 44th, 20:05.19; and Keegan Angell, 67th, 21:10.41

-Wills Point: Avery Brown, sixth, 17:24.98; Arik Phillips, 11th, 17:54.82; Sebastian King, 12th, 17:56.43; Kaden Moreno, 33rd , 19:29.65; and Michael Jenkins, 47th, 20:21.23

The Canton Eaglettes finished fourth overall in the varsity girls division with 130 total points, behind Kaufman with 63 points, Grace Community with 64 points and Eustace with 103 points. Wills Point placed ninth overall out of 13 competing teams with 205 total points.

Individual results in the varsity girls division included:

-Canton: Graycee Wilson, ninth, 13:34.1; Favor Cantrell, 21st, 14:24.82; Lana Stapleton, 25th, 14:32.9; Kimber Holly, 38th, 15:02.74; and Liz Chapman, 40th, 15:06.4

-Wills Point: Catherine Dixon, 28th, 14:40.29; Madison Egenbacher, 29th, 14:40.8; Stephanie Mireles, 43rd , 15:22.27; Stephanie Arvisu, 59th, 16:04.52; and Erin Thornton, 60th, 16:06.36

Canton and Wills Point were slated to compete again at the Midlothian Cross Country Meet Sept. 2 before squaring off the following week at the Canton Running Eagles Invitational Meet Sept. 11.
