Funeral services for Thurman H. Reid, 92, of Canton, was held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Eubank Funeral Home with Reverend Joanne Elston officiating. Pallbearers were Chas Venable, Chris Venable, Devin Venable, Cutter Venable, Barlow Reid and Brandon Reid.

Thurman passed away on March 23, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Canton on March 2, 1931, to Joseph Raymond and Gladys Naomi (Fuller) Reid. Thurman was a dedicated Christian and grew up being a member of the Oakland Baptist Church. He met his other half, Sherry Reid, and they were happily joined in marriage on Feb. 11, 1978, sharing 45 wonderful years together. Thurman loved his family and spent most of his time teaching them what hard work can achieve in this world. He enjoyed caring for his land from his tractor while growing sweet potatoes and tomatoes. When he wasn’t on the tractor, Thurman took care of his cattle and continued to be a hard-working example to all who knew him.

Thurman is survived by his beautiful wife, Sherry Reid; sons: Kenny Reid, and Sammy Reid and wife, Shannon; daughters: Terry Venable; Jo Ann Reid-Carroll and husband, Jeff, and Janie Reid; grandchildren: Chas Venable and wife, Amanda; Chris Venable and wife, Courtney; Aces Carroll; Brandon Reid, Barlow Reid and wife, Shannon; Devin Venable and wife, Haley; Samantha Ross and husband, Blake; Jessica Brown and husband, Jared; Dalton Carroll, and Lucas Reid; 22 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Joseph and Gladys Reid; grandson, Kaleb Reid; brother, Joe Harold Reid; sisters: Jean Mitchell and Wyndoln Tunnell; the children’s mother, Carlie Sue Reid, and son-in-law, Chuck Venable.

Visitation was on Tuesday, March 28, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.
