Joy Ann Flanagan Stuart was born March 15, 1947, in Charmco, West Virginia. She grew up and attended school in Nitro, West Virgina. She studied education, earning a bachelor’s degree from Miami University and a master’s from Texas Woman’s University. She was a longstanding member of the Mineola Pilots Club and Delta Kappa Gamma, serving as president of both for several years. Mrs. Stuart was the librarian for Mineola High School for 32 years. She has been a resident of the Van/Hideaway area for 30 years. She was active in her community and the Hideaway social culture. Joy was a member of St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church in Mineola.

Joy passed away at the age of 76 on February 28, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan Brent Flanagan and Helen Agnes Kincaid Flanagan.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Earl Stuart of Hideaway; two sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel Brent & Heidi Stuart of Florida and Randolph Calvin and Tristand Stuart of Granbury; brother, Col. Michael Flanagan and wife, Beth; brothers-in-law, David Stuart and Thomas Stuart; sisters-in-law, Jane Watson, Louise Hurm, and Miriam Gregory; grandchildren, Amber Pena, Morganne Stuart, Allyson Stuart, Leander Stuart, Owen Stuart, Autum Stuart, and Emily Stuart; and great-grandchildren, Bodhi & Gracie Pena, Chase Pena, and Cozette Pena.

A celebration of life was held for Joy Stuart on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home, 206 West South Street, Lindale.
