1941 – 2026
Frances Joanne Nichols of Canton passed away peacefully on February 5, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on November 12, 1941, along with her identical twin sister, in Terrell to D.W. and Oleta Nichols.
Joanne graduated from high school in Greenville and attended Baylor Dental School to pursue a degree in Dental Hygiene.
Her adventurous spirit led her down another career path in the hospitality industry where she worked as a Director of Sales for Waldorf Astoria, Statler Hilton and AmeriSuites.
She lived in Manhattan, Washington, D.C., Atlantic City and Palm Springs, California. She returned to Texas to work in sales for Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau and retired from the Dallas Museum of Art.
Joanne and her twin sister, Jeanne, lived together all over the United States and travelled extensively filling their home with treasures from all over the world.
Her dream was to return to East Texas to live out her retirement and she lived in Canton with her precious pet, Sadie, since 2017.
She is preceded in death by her parents, D.W. and Oleta Nichols, and her sister, Jeanne Nichols.
She is survived by her sister, Janice Nichols Child of Florida. Nephew, Edward Child of Florida; Nephew, Russell and wife, Leslie Child of Florida, and Nephew, Darren Child of Dallas. Great niece, Winter Child; Great nephews: Christian, Tyler and Taylor Child of Florida. Cousins: Amy Mitchell and Bill Hilliard of Canton.
A celebration of life will be held for Joanne on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at the Dallas Museum of Art from 2-4 p.m.
