James Michael Barton, 73, passed away on Monday, August 18, 2025. James was born to Romie and Flistean Barton on August 29, 1951.

He was a coach in the education field for much of his life. Being a coach is something he loved.

James enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and students. When your chosen profession is something that fulfills your life, retirement is just not the same and he missed coaching after retirement very much.

Preceding in death by his parents, Romie and Flistean Barton; and sister, Rebecca Ann Barton.

Survived by his son, Jonathan ‘Matt’ Barton, of Texarkana, Arkansas; daughter, LeTisha Barton Mitchell (Maurice), of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and a multitude of family, friends and students.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at Wilson Cemetery, Lewisville, Arkansas.

Cremation services under the direction of A O Smith Funeral Home, Stamps, Arkansas.
